Course Overview

Most of this course happens at the keyboard. Participants enable an integration, watch events arrive, shape them into incidents, and then write the playbook that handles them. EDU-380 is Palo Alto Networks Cortex XSOAR training built around that sequence of doing.

It runs four days, is instructor-led, and is based on Cortex XSOAR 6.8. After a first look at core functionality, you configure integrations so the platform can talk to other security tools. Next comes playbook development, where tasks are chained into a workflow. The course demonstrates a complete phishing-response playbook, so you see how the pieces fit before the detail begins.

Classification and mapping follow. They decide how an incoming event is recognised and which of its data lands in which incident field. The layout builder then arranges that data into the page an analyst works from. A good layout saves clicks on every single case.

Automations come next. You look at how they are developed and debugged, and at Docker, which the platform uses to run scripts and integrations. The course then widens to the marketplace and content management, indicators and threat intelligence management, jobs and scheduling, and role-based access controls. Integration development closes the outline, and solution architecture explains how the platform is put together.

Participants must complete the Cortex XSOAR Analyst digital learning first. Palo Alto Networks states that proficiency in writing code is not required, though scripting and JSON familiarity make the automation modules easier. Many teams find that small, tested playbooks win over large, untested ones.

Course Objectives

  • Enable integrations and confirm that data reaches Cortex XSOAR.
  • Configure classification and mapping to turn raw events into structured incidents.
  • Create tasks and chain them into playbooks.
  • Follow a complete phishing-response playbook and adapt its approach.
  • Arrange incident layouts around what analysts need to see first.
  • Develop automations and debug them when they misbehave.
  • Explain the role of Docker in running automations and integrations.
  • Manage content, indicators, and scheduled jobs.
  • Assign users and roles using role-based access controls.

Prerequisites

Participants must complete the Cortex XSOAR Analyst digital learning. Participants who have experience with scripting, the use of Python and JavaScript, and the use of JSON data objects will likely be able to apply what they learn more quickly than participants without such experience. However, completion of the course does not require proficiency in writing code.

Target Audience

  • SOC engineers and security operations staff: you handle repetitive triage that a playbook could carry.
  • SOAR engineers: you build and maintain the integrations and automations behind the process.
  • CERT and CSIRT team members: you need consistent case records and repeatable response steps.
  • Managed security service providers (MSSPs): you deliver the same response process across teams or customers.
  • System integrators and service delivery partners: you configure and hand over XSOAR environments.
  • Professional services engineers: you need a structured view of the whole platform.
  • Security engineers and administrators: you are asked to connect security tools into one workflow.

Palo Alto Networks Cortex XSOAR Training in Oman for Muscat, Sohar and Duqm Teams

Palo Alto Networks Cortex XSOAR training in Oman suits security teams that protect banks, oil and gas operators, and the logistics networks around Sohar and Duqm. Oman Vision 2040 places digital services and economic diversification at the centre of national planning, and the security teams behind those services need ways to respond consistently as event volumes grow. Analysts in Muscat who search for an EDU-380 course will find the same core skills here: building integrations, writing playbooks, and designing incident layouts that make triage faster. Automating routine checks lets small teams spend their time on the decisions that need people. Read about the Cortex XSOAR Analyst digital learning that must be completed first; see more Palo Alto Networks courses, or explore security operations training for SOC teams. The training team can share the full outline on request.

FAQs

What is EDU-380 and what do I do in it?

EDU-380 is a four-day, instructor-led Palo Alto Networks course on Cortex XSOAR automation and orchestration, based on version 6.8. You enable integrations, build playbooks, map events to incidents, design layouts, and develop automations in hands-on labs. A phishing-response workflow is used as the main working example.

What does the course cover module by module?

It covers core functionality, integrations, playbook development, classification and mapping, layout builder, solution architecture, and Docker. Later modules are automation development and debugging, marketplace and content management, indicators and threat intelligence, jobs and scheduling, role-based access controls, and integration development. If your XSOAR version differs, ask the training team about fit.

Will this course suit me if I am an analyst rather than an engineer?

Possibly. Palo Alto Networks designs EDU-380 for SOC, CERT, CSIRT, and SOAR engineers and requires the Cortex XSOAR Analyst digital learning first. If you have completed that and want to build playbooks and layouts, the course is relevant. It does not require proficiency in writing code.

What must I complete before attending?

You must complete the Cortex XSOAR Analyst digital learning. Palo Alto Networks adds that completing the course does not require proficiency in writing code. Partner notes say experience with scripting, Python, JavaScript, and JSON helps you progress faster, but they are not listed as requirements.

What will I be able to do afterwards?

You should be able to connect tools through integrations, build and test a playbook, structure incoming events as incidents, and arrange an analyst-friendly layout. You will also have practised debugging automations and applying role-based access. Real-world results depend on your starting experience and on regular practice.

Does attending EDU-380 make me certified?

No. EDU-380 is training, which is different from an exam, which is different from a certification. Palo Alto Networks has moved to role-based certifications and retired the PCSAE exam in 2025, so look at its current catalogue for Cortex XSOAR options. A certification requires passing the relevant exam separately.

Why are small, tested playbooks recommended?

A small playbook is easier to test, easier to debug, and easier for a colleague to understand. If one step fails, you know where to look. Large playbooks that try to do everything tend to hide faults. This is why the course pairs playbook building with automation debugging.

How might this course help my professional development?

It adds hands-on SOAR skills to a security operations background, which can widen the responsibilities you take on. It cannot promise a promotion, a pay rise or a new job. Those outcomes depend on your employer, your wider experience and the market.
