Course Overview

A clear way to understand InfoScale is to follow one application from bare disks to a tested failover. InfoScale 8.0 training takes that route over five days, with hands-on exercises at each stage. The Veritas InfoScale 8.0 Fundamentals for UNIX/Linux Administration course introduces InfoScale Storage and InfoScale Availability together. It is a condensed subset of the two separate five-day administration courses for those products.

The work starts with installation. Learners check system requirements, install and license InfoScale, and run post-installation checks. They then prepare disks and disk groups in Veritas Volume Manager (VxVM) and create volumes and file systems using the menu interface, the command line, and the InfoScale Operations Manager (VIOM) console.

Next comes storage administration. Learners build volumes with different layouts, add mirrors, resize volumes and file systems, and move disk groups between systems. Veritas File System (VxFS) topics include logging, defragmentation, and thin reclamation.

The second half moves to Veritas Cluster Server (VCS). Learners display cluster status and run service group operations. They prepare a sample application for clustering, then configure its service group online and edit the cluster configuration offline. Notifications and trigger scripts follow. The final labs show what happens when things break: resource faults, IMF-based monitoring, interconnect changes, and jeopardy membership.

Back at work, administrators can apply this method directly. They can build storage consistently, bring an application under cluster control, and confirm that failover works before an outage tests it for real.

Course Objectives

  • Install InfoScale, verify system requirements, and run post-installation checks.
  • Create disk groups, volumes, and file systems using the menu, command line, and VIOM tools.
  • Configure volumes with suitable layouts and RAID levels for different workloads.
  • Apply mirroring, resizing, and renaming to VxVM objects, and move data between systems.
  • Maintain VxFS file systems through defragmentation and thin reclamation.
  • Prepare an application for clustering and configure its VCS service group and resources.
  • Edit cluster configuration offline and troubleshoot configuration errors.
  • Analyse cluster behaviour during resource faults, interconnect failures, and jeopardy membership.

Veritas Storage and Clustering Course in Oman for Vision 2040

Oman Vision 2040 places the digital economy at the centre of diversification, and the ports, logistics hubs, oil and gas operators, and banks behind that growth depend on systems that cannot afford long outages. InfoScale 8.0 training in Oman helps UNIX/Linux administrators in Muscat, Sohar and Duqm build storage and failover clusters that keep those systems running. A port operations platform, for example, can be clustered so that a server failure moves the service to another node in a controlled way. Banks and energy companies with large Linux estates also benefit from staff who understand how volumes, file systems and cluster resources fit together. Upcoming dates appear on our Muscat training timetable, and employers can request an in-house InfoScale course for their infrastructure team. Ask our team for the full outline and a suitable start date.

FAQs

Do I need Linux administration experience for InfoScale training?

Yes, hands-on UNIX/Linux system administration experience is required. The labs assume you can work confidently at the command line, manage users, disks, and file systems, and read system logs. Administrators who are newer to Linux should strengthen those skills first, because the course pace leaves little time for operating system basics.

What is VIOM and is it used on the course?

VIOM is Veritas InfoScale Operations Manager, a graphical console for managing InfoScale storage and clusters from one place. The course introduces it alongside the text-based menu and command-line tools. Learning all three helps administrators choose the right tool for each task, whether that is a quick check in the console or a scripted change.

Which volume layouts does the InfoScale Fundamentals course cover?

The course covers the main VxVM volume layouts and the RAID levels behind them, including concatenated, striped, and mirrored volumes. Lab exercises also include erasure-coded volumes. Learners practise allocating storage for each layout, which helps them balance performance, capacity, and resilience when designing storage for a real application.

What is a VCS service group?

A service group is the set of resources an application needs to run, managed by Veritas Cluster Server as a single unit. It typically includes storage, a file system mount, a network address, and the application process. When a fault occurs, VCS brings the whole group online on another node so the application restarts in the correct order.

Is the InfoScale course in Muscat suitable for SAN administrators?

Yes, SAN administrators benefit from the course, especially the storage half. They learn how VxVM presents and manages the LUNs they provision, how volumes are laid out across disks, and how storage is moved between systems. That shared understanding makes it easier to work with system administrators when planning capacity or diagnosing storage issues.

What happens during a virtual fire drill?

A virtual fire drill checks whether a service group could come online on another node without actually failing it over. It reveals problems such as missing mount points or configuration differences before a real outage exposes them. Learners run one in the labs, and it is a useful habit for any team that relies on clustered applications.

How does InfoScale Fundamentals fit into a learning path?

It is the entry point to InfoScale administration, combining the basics of storage and availability in one course. Learners who later need greater skills can continue to the full InfoScale Storage 8.0 or InfoScale Availability 8.0 administration courses. Any career benefit depends on experience and employer needs, so the course should be treated as one step in a wider plan.

Does InfoScale support cloud environments?

Yes, InfoScale offers support for cloud deployments, and the course gives an overview of these cloud offerings during the installation and product suite lesson. Most practical work focuses on core storage and clustering tasks that apply whether systems run on premises or in the cloud. That makes the skills useful for organisations running hybrid environments.
