Course Overview

A cluster earns its keep on a bad day: a failed server, a broken network link, or a crashed application at peak hours. Veritas InfoScale training prepares administrators for those moments. The Veritas InfoScale 8.0 Fundamentals for UNIX/Linux Administration course covers how InfoScale detects a fault, decides what to do, and moves services to a healthy node, along with the storage foundations that make this possible.

The availability content centres on Veritas Cluster Server (VCS). Learners start with high availability and clustering concepts, the VCS building blocks, and the way cluster nodes communicate. They then run common operations, prepare an application for clustering, and configure service groups and resources. Later lessons look closely at fault handling. Learners see how VCS responds to a resource fault, what affects failover duration, and how fault behaviour can be controlled. They also cover how the Intelligent Monitoring Framework (IMF) detects problems faster than traditional polling, and what happens when the cluster interconnect fails.

None of this works without well-managed storage, so the course also covers InfoScale Storage basics. Learners create Veritas Volume Manager (VxVM) disk groups and volumes, work with mirrored layouts, and resize storage. They also administer the Veritas File System (VxFS).

The course is a five-day condensed subset of the separate InfoScale Storage 8.0 and InfoScale Availability 8.0 administration courses.

For operations teams, the result is calmer incident handling. Administrators who understand failover behaviour can read cluster status accurately, recover faulted resources and explain to stakeholders what happened and why.

High Availability Clustering Course in Qatar National Vision 2030

Qatar National Vision 2030 sets out a knowledge-based economy, and the government, energy, and financial institutions behind it run services that people expect to work at any hour. Veritas InfoScale training in Qatar helps UNIX/Linux administrators in Doha, Lusail and Ras Laffan build and support clusters that keep those services available when hardware or software fails. Energy operators running industrial and corporate systems, and banks running payment and customer platforms, both gain from staff who can read cluster status quickly and recover a faulted service with confidence. The course also covers the storage layer, which is often where the cause of an outage is found. Individuals can choose a date from our Doha course calendar, while infrastructure managers can arrange team training at your premises. Contact us for the detailed outline and timing options.

FAQs

How does Veritas Cluster Server detect a failed application?

Veritas Cluster Server uses agents to monitor each resource, such as a disk group, mount point, IP address, or application process. Traditionally, agents check resources at regular intervals. With the Intelligent Monitoring Framework, many resources are monitored through event notifications instead, so faults are detected almost immediately. VCS then follows the configured policy to restart or fail over the service.

What is the cluster interconnect and why does it matter?

The cluster interconnect is the private network that cluster nodes use to exchange heartbeats and status information. If it fails, nodes may lose track of each other, which risks two nodes trying to run the same service. The course explains how InfoScale manages these situations, including jeopardy membership, and how to change the interconnect safely.

Can I change a cluster configuration while it is running?

Yes, VCS supports online configuration, where service groups and resources are changed while the cluster is running. The course also covers offline configuration, where the main.cf file is edited while the cluster is stopped. Learners compare both methods and learn when each is appropriate, as well as how to troubleshoot configuration errors.

Is the InfoScale course in Doha suitable for technical support engineers?

Yes, technical support engineers benefit from understanding how InfoScale storage and clusters behave, especially when they handle escalations. The course shows how to display cluster and service group status, interpret faults, and recover resources. That knowledge shortens diagnosis time and makes handovers to senior administrators clearer and more accurate.

What is the difference between InfoScale Storage and InfoScale Availability?

InfoScale Storage manages disks, volumes, and file systems through Veritas Volume Manager and Veritas File System. InfoScale Availability provides clustering and failover through Veritas Cluster Server. The Fundamentals course introduces both because clustered applications depend on reliable storage, and storage administrators need to understand how their volumes are used by clusters.

What prerequisites does the InfoScale Fundamentals course have?

The course requires knowledge of and hands-on experience with UNIX/Linux system administration. Learners should be comfortable managing disks, file systems, networking, and services from the command line. No previous InfoScale experience is needed, since the course begins with installation, licensing, and the product suite.

Which notification options does VCS provide?

VCS can send notifications about cluster events, such as faults and service group state changes, to administrators through configured notifiers. It also supports trigger scripts, which run automatically when specific events occur. The course covers configuring both, so teams can be alerted promptly and automate routine responses to common events.

What should I do after completing InfoScale Fundamentals training?

Practise the core tasks in a test environment, especially failover testing and recovering faulted resources. Administrators who need deeper skills can then move on to the full InfoScale Availability 8.0 or InfoScale Storage 8.0 administration courses. Applying the skills on real projects usually builds confidence faster than further study alone, though career outcomes depend on each employer.
