Check Point Certified Security Expert (CCSE)
Course Overview
Check Point CCSE training is the next step for IT professionals who already manage Check Point firewalls and want to run them at enterprise scale. The Check Point Certified Security Expert (CCSE) R82 course develops advanced skills in high availability, site-to-site VPN, advanced NAT, security monitoring, upgrades, and gateway clustering. It also prepares candidates for the CCSE certification exam (156-315.82). The course runs in three stages, and each stage covers a different area of advanced firewall administration.
Stage one: high availability and advanced policy management. The CCSE course begins by protecting the management layer of a Check Point security environment. Learners deploy a Secondary Security Management Server, keep it synchronized with the Primary, and test failover, so that policy control continues even if one server goes down. Advanced policy management comes next. It covers Updatable Objects that track cloud service IP addresses automatically, manual static and hidden NAT, and managing branch-office Security Gateways from a Management Server located behind NAT.
Stage two: site-to-site VPN and advanced security monitoring. Learners build Check Point site-to-site VPN communities, authenticating peers with pre-shared keys or certificates, and set up tunnels to externally managed gateways. Link selection and ISP redundancy keep those encrypted connections available when an internet provider fails. For deeper visibility, SmartEvent correlates large volumes of logs into meaningful security events and alerts, and the Compliance Blade shows where the firewall configuration falls short of best practice.
Stage three: upgrades, migrations and ElasticXL clustering. The final stage covers the lifecycle of the security platform. Learners upgrade Check Point Security Gateways and use the Central Deployment Tool to deploy hotfixes across gateways. They also migrate the Security Management database to new software versions or hardware, and deploy an ElasticXL cluster that scales gateway capacity as traffic grows.
By the end of this Check Point Certified Security Expert course, learners can keep a Check Point Quantum environment available, connected, and current, and can explain the reasoning behind each design decision. The course combines practical network security engineering with preparation for the CCSE R82 exam, which makes it valuable both to security professionals and to the organizations that depend on them.
Course Objectives
Learners who complete the course will be able to:
Remove single points of failure
- Deploy a Secondary Security Management Server, verify synchronization, and manage failover.
- Build rules with Updatable Objects that adjust automatically to changing cloud service addresses.
- Configure manual static and hide NAT, and manage a remote gateway from a Management Server behind NAT.
Connecting and seeing more
- Create site-to-site VPN communities with pre-shared key or certificate authentication, including externally managed peers.
- Configure link selection and ISP redundancy, and test failover and load sharing.
- Set up SmartEvent alerts for high-severity threats and use Compliance Blade reports to improve the policy.
Changing safely and growing
- Upgrade Security Gateways and deploy hotfixes through the Central Deployment Tool.
- Export and import the Security Management database to complete a migration.
- Deploy an ElasticXL cluster and check its health, load balancing, and failover.

Tanzania’s banks, mobile money providers, telecom operators, and government e-services rely on networks that must stay available around the clock, often across offices in several cities. The Personal Data Protection Act and the work of TZ-CERT add further reasons to keep those networks well protected and well managed. Check Point CCSE training in Tanzania helps experienced IT professionals meet this need. The course covers Management High Availability, site-to-site VPN, ISP redundancy, advanced NAT, SmartEvent monitoring, upgrades, migrations, and ElasticXL clustering on Check Point R82. Teams in Dar es Salaam, Dodoma, Arusha and Zanzibar can apply these skills to reduce downtime and keep remote sites securely connected. For CCSA holders, the Check Point Certified Security Expert course provides structured preparation for the CCSE exam. For employers, it is a practical way to build advanced in-house Check Point expertise.
FAQs
What is the CCSE course about?
The course is about keeping Check Point security resilient and current at scale. It covers redundant management, advanced policy and NAT, site-to-site VPN, advanced monitoring, upgrades, migrations, and clustering.
How is CCSE different from CCSA?
CCSA covers foundational administration, such as policies, layers, identity, inspection, and threat prevention. CCSE builds on that with management, high availability, VPN, advanced NAT, SmartEvent, upgrades, migrations, and ElasticXL clustering.
Which professionals should take Check Point CCSE training?
CCSA holders, senior firewall administrators, network security engineers, architects, consultants, and operations specialists who support, install, or deploy Check Point products.
What should I know before taking the course?
You should have CCSA-level knowledge. Check Point also recommends at least six months of hands-on experience managing a Quantum Security Environment, good TCP/IP knowledge, and basic Linux CLI skills.
How do I earn the CCSE certification after training?
You need to have passed the CCSA exam from R8x or newer, which may have expired. You then book exam 156-315.82 through Pearson VUE and take it at a test center or online. When you pass, Check Point issues the certification through your User Center account.
Why would a Management Server sit behind NAT?
Organizations with branch offices often keep management at headquarters behind a NAT device. The course shows how to configure that setup so the central Management Server can still manage remote gateways reliably.
Why are upgrade and migration skills important?
Upgrades and migrations change the core of the security platform. Planning them well and knowing how to verify the results keep policies and gateways working and avoid unplanned outages.
How long does the CCSE certification remain valid?
Check Point sets the validity and recertification rules for its credentials, and these can change. Check the current policy in Check Point’s certification FAQ (SecureKnowledge sk163417) before planning your recertification
