Rocheston SOC Analyst (RSOC)
Course Overview
For organisations that serve millions of customers through apps and online accounts, many security incidents start with a person. A staff member clicks a phishing link, a customer’s password is reused, or an account suddenly logs in from somewhere new. RSOC training teaches analysts to catch those signals early. The Rocheston SOC Analyst (RSOC) course is a three-day programme in SIEM monitoring, alert triage, log analysis, incident detection, escalation, reporting and threat hunting fundamentals.
User-facing threats run through the hands-on work. On Rocheston Rose OS, learners investigate phishing alerts, suspicious logins and brute force attempts against accounts. They also work through malware detections, privilege escalation, lateral movement, data exfiltration and cloud anomalies. Each case teaches them to gather context, judge how serious it is, and choose the right action.
The course structure supports this work. SOC foundations explain how an operations centre runs, together with network security fundamentals and the Rocheston Cybersecurity Framework. The SIEM and log analysis track shows how events are collected and correlated and how detection rules turn them into alerts. Incident response operations cover the response process and threat analysis. A final track on threat hunting and Rochester Vulnerability Vines helps analysts find risks before they become incidents.
The programme targets Tier 1 readiness and introduces Tier 2 workflows.
For banks, telecom operators and digital service providers, the benefit is direct. Analysts who recognise account takeover and phishing patterns quickly can limit harm to customers and protect trust in the service.
Course Structure and Key Details
The three-day RSOC course uses four tracks to build the skills analysts need to protect users and services, from first alert to final report.
In the SOC Foundations track, the Introduction to Security Operations, Network Security Fundamentals, and Rocheston Cybersecurity Framework modules explain how monitoring protects accounts, apps, and services. The SIEM and Log Analysis track, made up of Security Information and Event Management and Incident Detection and Analysis, teaches learners to detect phishing, suspicious logins, and brute force attempts in correlated logs.
Incident Response Operations covers the Incident Response Process and Threat Analysis. It prepares analysts to contain compromised accounts and escalate fraud-related incidents. Threat Hunting and Defensive Improvement, with Threat Hunting and Rocheston Vulnerability Vines, helps them find account takeover activity and weaknesses that alerts may miss.
In total, the course runs for three days across nine modules in four tracks and targets Tier 1 SOC readiness, with an introduction to Tier 2 workflows. Practical labs take place in Rocheston Rose OS, with simulated phishing, malware, suspicious login, brute force, privilege escalation, lateral movement, data exfiltration, and cloud anomaly alerts. Rocheston offers instructor-led training in a classroom or virtually, blended learning, and optional self-paced online learning. Our Dar es Salaam team can confirm what is available for your group.
Recommended prerequisites are basic IT and networking knowledge, including IP addresses, ports, operating system basics and logs, plus awareness of firewalls, malware, phishing and authentication. SOC experience is not required.
The exam consists of 100 questions across multiple-choice, true/false, and short-answer formats, with a two-hour limit and a 70% pass mark, and is proctored online through Ramsys. A Rocheston certificate is issued after passing, and course attendance alone does not grant it. For further study, Rocheston recommends RCCE Level 1, RCCE Level 2, RCCI, CCO or RCAI.

Request More InformationSecurity Monitoring Course in Dar es Salaam and Arusha for Mobile Money and Digital Banking
The country’s digital economy relies heavily on mobile money, digital banking and telecom services, which makes phishing, fake apps and account takeover constant concerns for providers and their customers. The Personal Data Protection Act, 2022 requires organisations to safeguard the personal data they process. Meanwhile, the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) oversees the communications sector and hosts the national CERT, TZ-CERT. SOC analyst training in Tanzania helps security teams in Dar es Salaam, Arusha and Dodoma monitor these services, spot suspicious account activity early and respond before customers are harmed. Banks, telecom operators and fintech providers running busy digital channels gain the most from analysts who can separate genuine threats from everyday noise. FAQs
How do SOC analysts detect phishing?
SOC analysts detect phishing by reviewing reported or flagged emails, checking sender details, headers, and links, and looking for related activity in the logs. If a user clicked a link or entered credentials, the analyst checks for suspicious logins that followed. RSOC gives learners practice investigating phishing alerts from the first report through containment and escalation.
What is lateral movement in cybersecurity?
Lateral movement is how an attacker spreads from one compromised system or account to others inside a network, often searching for higher privileges or valuable data. It typically shows up as unusual logins between systems or the use of administrative tools from unexpected machines. Spotting it early can stop a small compromise from becoming a major incident.
Is RSOC training in Dar es Salaam suitable for help desk staff?
Yes, help desk staff are often well placed to move into SOC work. They already handle user reports, follow procedures, and understand common IT issues, and they frequently receive the first phishing complaints. RSOC adds the security skills needed to investigate those reports properly, provided learners have basic networking and security knowledge.
What does the Rocheston Cybersecurity Framework cover?
The Rocheston Cybersecurity Framework is one of the nine RSOC modules and gives analysts a structured approach to defensive security. It helps learners place their SOC work within a wider set of protect, detect, respond and investigate activities. Understanding the framework makes it easier to see how individual alerts connect to an organisation’s overall security programme.
Are there prerequisites for SOC analyst training?
Rocheston recommends basic IT, networking, and security knowledge, including IP addresses and ports, operating system basics, log concepts, and how firewalls, malware, phishing, and authentication work. No SOC experience is required. Learners who need more preparation can take our networking fundamentals course.
How is the RSOC certificate earned?
The RSOC certificate is earned by passing the Rocheston SOC Analyst exam, not by attending the course alone. The exam has 100 questions in multiple-choice, true/false and short-answer formats, a two-hour time limit, and a 70% pass mark. It is taken online with RamSys proctoring, and registration is through Rocheston’s certification portal.
What is Rocheston Vulnerability Vines in the RSOC course?
Rocheston Vulnerability Vines is part of the threat hunting and defensive improvement track. It introduces analysts to identifying and reviewing vulnerabilities, so they understand which weaknesses attackers are likely to target. This helps SOC teams prioritise monitoring around high-risk systems and contribute to fixing problems, rather than only reacting to alerts.
How does RSOC help my career in security operations?
RSOC prepares learners for Tier 1 SOC responsibilities and introduces Tier 2 workflows, which can support a move into a security operations role. Passing the exam adds a Rocheston certificate. As Rocheston itself notes, career outcomes depend on experience, region, employer requirements, and interview performance, so no course can guarantee employment.
