Course Overview

For services that customers use around the clock, two things matter most: the data must stay intact, and the application must stay reachable. Veritas InfoScale training addresses both. The Veritas InfoScale 8.0 Fundamentals for UNIX/Linux Administration course shows administrators how InfoScale Storage protects and manages data, and how InfoScale Availability keeps applications online when servers or components fail.

Data protection starts at the volume. Learners use Veritas Volume Manager (VxVM) to group disks and build volumes with layouts suited to the workload. They then add mirrors so a single disk failure does not interrupt service. They practise resizing volumes and file systems as data grows, moving disk groups between systems and renaming storage objects cleanly. Veritas File System (VxFS) topics cover logging for fast recovery, fragmentation control and thin provisioning.

Availability is the second half of the course. Using Veritas Cluster Server (VCS), learners place an application under cluster control by preparing it, creating a service group and adding resources. They test failover and configure notifications, so administrators hear about problems quickly. Lessons on resource faults, the Intelligent Monitoring Framework, and cluster communication explain how the cluster behaves when something goes wrong and how to recover.

This five-day course is a condensed subset of the separate InfoScale Storage 8.0 and InfoScale Availability 8.0 administration courses, focusing on the fundamentals of each.

For organisations handling large volumes of customer data, these skills support fewer outages and faster recovery. Changes to storage can also be made without putting data at risk.

Course Objectives

  • Configure mirrored volumes that continue serving data when a disk fails.
  • Allocate storage and create volumes with layouts that match workload needs.
  • Resize volumes and file systems online as capacity requirements change.
  • Move disk groups and data between systems, and rename VxVM objects safely.
  • Administer VxFS file systems using logging, defragmentation, and thin provisioning.
  • Place an application under VCS control by building its service group and resources.
  • Configure notifications and triggers so teams are alerted to cluster events.
  • Detect and recover from resource faults using VCS fault-handling and IMF features.

InfoScale Storage and Cluster Course in Tanzania for Mobile Money Platforms

The country’s digital economy relies heavily on mobile money, digital banking and telecom services, so a single outage can affect millions of transactions. Organisations also handle growing volumes of personal data, which the Personal Data Protection Act, 2022 requires them to protect. Veritas InfoScale training in Tanzania helps UNIX/Linux administrators in Dar es Salaam, Arusha and Dodoma manage storage that resists disk failure and clusters that keep services available. Banks, telecom operators and fintech providers running critical Linux platforms gain the most from these skills. Administrators learn to resize and move storage without disrupting service, and to recover a faulted application quickly. FAQs

How does mirroring protect data in Veritas Volume Manager?

Mirroring keeps two or more identical copies of a volume on separate disks. If one disk fails, the volume continues working from the remaining copy, so applications keep running while the failed disk is replaced. The course covers creating and administering mirrored volumes, which is one of the most common storage protection tasks in InfoScale environments.

Can I resize storage without taking applications offline?

Yes, InfoScale supports resizing volumes and VxFS file systems while they are in use, in many cases without downtime. This lets administrators add capacity as data grows rather than scheduling disruptive maintenance windows. The course covers the resizing procedures and the checks needed to make sure enough underlying disk space is available first.

How do I move data between systems with VxVM?

VxVM lets administrators deport a disk group from one system and import it on another, taking the volumes and data with it. This is useful when replacing servers or rebalancing workloads. The course covers the steps involved and the precautions that prevent two systems from accessing the same disk group at once.

Who should take the InfoScale course in Dar es Salaam?

The course suits UNIX/Linux system administrators, system engineers, and technical support staff working in organisations that run InfoScale. Network and SAN administrators who provision storage for these systems also benefit. It is particularly useful for teams supporting banking, telecom, and payment platforms, where storage and availability problems have an immediate customer impact.

Is UNIX/Linux experience required for Veritas InfoScale training?

Yes, hands-on UNIX/Linux system administration experience is required before you start. You should be able to manage disks, file systems, services, and basic networking from the command line. The course then builds InfoScale skills on top of that foundation, starting with installation and moving through storage and clustering.

What is thin provisioning in Veritas File System?

Thin provisioning allows storage to be allocated on demand rather than reserved in full up front. VxFS works with thin-provisioned storage and supports thin reclamation, which returns unused space to the storage array. This helps organisations use capacity more efficiently, an important consideration when data volumes grow quickly.

What does the course teach about cluster faults?

The course explains how Veritas Cluster Server responds when a resource faults, what determines how long failover takes, and how fault behaviour can be adjusted. It also covers recovering faulted resources and receiving notifications about them. Labs let learners observe fault behaviour directly, which makes real incidents easier to diagnose.

How does InfoScale Fundamentals support professional development?

The course gives administrators a documented foundation in both InfoScale storage and availability, which can support taking on more responsibility for critical systems. Learners who want to specialise can continue to the full InfoScale Storage 8.0 or InfoScale Availability 8.0 administration courses. Career outcomes depend on experience and employer needs, so no course can guarantee a new role.
