Course Overview

Automation can sound like something for developers. For most security staff, the first step is much smaller: take a procedure you already follow and write it down in a form a machine can run. EDU-380 is Palo Alto Networks Cortex XSOAR training that guides analysts and engineers through that first step and the ones after it.

The course lasts four days, is instructor-led, and is based on Cortex XSOAR 6.8. It suits SOC, CERT, CSIRT, and SOAR engineers. Palo Alto Networks asks participants to finish the Cortex XSOAR Analyst digital learning first, so everyone arrives knowing the platform from an analyst’s point of view. It also states that writing code proficiently is not required.

A sensible order helps newcomers. The course opens with core functionality and feature sets, then moves to integrations, which let XSOAR work with your other tools. Playbook development follows, using a phishing workflow that most security teams will recognise.

After that, participants learn how events are classified and mapped into incidents, and how layouts present them to analysts. Automation development and debugging show what to do when something does not behave as expected.

The remaining modules cover solution architecture, Docker, the marketplace and content management, indicators and threat intelligence management, jobs and scheduling, role-based access controls and integration development. Teams with some scripting and JSON experience will move faster through these, although it is not mandatory. Starting with one well-understood procedure and automating it properly is a better beginning than trying to automate everything.

Course Objectives

  • Describe the core features of Cortex XSOAR and where each fits in daily work.
  • Connect other tools by enabling and configuring integrations.
  • Convert a manual response procedure into a playbook of tasks.
  • Follow the build of a complete phishing-response playbook.
  • Classify events and map their data to incident fields.
  • Create layouts that help analysts triage and investigate.
  • Develop simple automations and debug them.
  • Manage indicators, content, and scheduled jobs.
  • Apply role-based access controls to users and roles.

Prerequisites

Participants must complete the Cortex XSOAR Analyst digital learning. Participants who have experience with scripting, the use of Python and JavaScript, and the use of JSON data objects will likely be able to apply what they learn more quickly than participants without such experience. However, completion of the course does not require proficiency in writing code.

Target Audience

  • SOC engineers and security operations staff: you handle repetitive triage that a playbook could carry.
  • SOAR engineers: you build and maintain the integrations and automations behind the process.
  • CERT and CSIRT team members: you need consistent case records and repeatable response steps.
  • Managed security service providers (MSSPs): you deliver the same response process across teams or customers.
  • System integrators and service delivery partners: you configure and hand over XSOAR environments.
  • Professional services engineers: you need a structured view of the whole platform.
  • Security engineers and administrators: you are asked to connect security tools into one workflow.

Palo Alto Networks Cortex XSOAR Training in Ethiopia for Regional Teams

Palo Alto Networks Cortex XSOAR training in Ethiopia supports security staff who are starting to automate incident response. As the country advances its national digital transformation strategy, banks, telecom operators and public bodies in Addis Ababa, Dire Dawa and Hawassa run more online services and see more security events. The Information Network Security Administration (INSA) is responsible for safeguarding the country’s critical digital infrastructure and promoting cybersecurity awareness, which keeps attention on how well organisations respond to incidents. A Cortex XSOAR course in Addis Ababa is a practical step for analysts and engineers who want to turn manual response steps into documented playbooks. Participants must first complete the Cortex XSOAR Analyst digital learning. You can also browse the Palo Alto Networks training category or our cybersecurity courses for security operations teams. FAQs

What is Palo Alto Networks Cortex XSOAR training (EDU-380)?

It is a four-day, instructor-led course for people who want to start working with Cortex XSOAR integrations, playbooks, and incident layouts. It is based on Cortex XSOAR 6.8. The course covers resource orchestration, process automation, case management, and analyst workflow, with a phishing playbook as its worked example.

What exactly will I study?

You study core functionality, integrations, playbook development, classification and mapping, layouts, solution architecture, and Docker. Later modules cover automation development and debugging, content management, indicators, jobs, role-based access controls, and integration development. Teams that run a different XSOAR version should confirm with the training team how well the labs fit.

Is this course for beginners in security?

No. It is designed for SOC, CERT, CSIRT, and SOAR engineers and requires the Cortex XSOAR Analyst digital learning first. It is, however, an accessible entry to automation because it does not require proficiency in writing code. Analysts with some experience in incident handling will follow it most easily.

Do I need to know how to code?

No. Palo Alto Networks states that completing EDU-380 does not require proficiency in writing code. Partner materials add that experience with scripting, Python, JavaScript, and JSON helps participants work faster. The formal prerequisite is completion of the Cortex XSOAR Analyst digital learning before attending.

What will I be able to do after the course?

You should be able to turn a written procedure into a playbook, connect tools through integrations, shape incoming events into incidents, and design an analyst layout. You will also have practised debugging automations and managing access. Your progress depends on how much you apply the skills in your own work.

Does the course award a certification?

No. EDU-380 is training only. An exam is a separate test, and a certification is awarded only after passing one. Palo Alto Networks has moved to role-based certifications and retired the PCSAE exam in 2025, so check its current catalogue for relevant options. Attendance does not guarantee any exam result.

Why should I automate one procedure at a time?

A single procedure is easy to test and easy to explain to colleagues. When it works, you gain a template for the next one. Trying to automate everything at once creates playbooks nobody trusts. The course’s phishing example shows how to build one workflow thoroughly.

How could this course help my career?

It gives you a practical security automation skill, which can complement analyst or engineering experience and widen your responsibilities. It cannot guarantee a promotion, salary increase, or job offer, since those depend on your employer and your wider experience.
