Course Overview

Running a single firewall well is one skill. Keeping a security estate available, connected, and current across sites, versions, and growing traffic is another. The Check Point Certified Security Expert (CCSE) course is built around that second challenge, and it is the natural step for administrators who already hold, or are working toward, the CCSA.

This Check Point CCSE training follows the R82 curriculum and starts where outages hurt most: the management layer. Learners deploy a Secondary Security Management Server, synchronize it with the Primary, and test failover, so policy control survives the loss of a server. The course then moves into advanced policy management. Topics include Updatable Objects that track cloud service addresses automatically, manual static and hide NAT, and managing a branch-office gateway from a Management Server that sits behind NAT.

Connectivity comes next. Learners build site-to-site VPN communities between internally and externally managed gateways, authenticate with pre-shared keys or certificates, and configure link selection and ISP redundancy. Advanced security monitoring follows, with SmartEvent for event correlation and alerting and the Compliance Blade for checking policy against best practice.

The final modules deal with change, which is where enterprise environments are most often at risk. The course covers gateway upgrades, hotfix deployment with the Central Deployment Tool, management database export and import, and deploying an ElasticXL cluster that scales as demand grows. The result is the expert-level Check Point firewall administration that larger networks depend on, together with structured preparation for the CCSE R82 exam.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Deploy a Secondary Security Management Server, verify database synchronization, and manage failover for Management High Availability.
  • Use Updatable Objects in security rules so access stays accurate as cloud service addresses change.
  • Configure manual static and hide NAT, and manage a remote gateway from a Management Server located behind NAT.
  • Build site-to-site VPN communities using pre-shared key or certificate authentication, including tunnels to externally managed gateways.
  • Configure link selection and ISP redundancy to keep VPN and internet connectivity resilient.
  • Configure a SmartEvent Server, create alerts for high-severity events, and use the Compliance Blade to identify policy improvements.
  • Upgrade Security Gateways, deploy hotfixes with the Central Deployment Tool, and confirm version compatibility with management.
  • Export and import the Security Management database to migrate to a newer version or new hardware.
  • Deploy an ElasticXL Security Gateway Cluster and verify load balancing, failover, and cluster health.

Advanced Check Point CCSE Training for Global Security Teams

Organizations that run Check Point at scale need more than day-to-day administrators. They need specialists who can keep management highly available, connect branch offices securely and upgrade infrastructure without disrupting the business. Check Point CCSE training is aimed at an international audience of professionals who already know the platform and want to work at that level. The course covers Management High Availability, advanced NAT, site-to-site VPN, SmartEvent monitoring, upgrades, migrations, and ElasticXL clustering on Check Point R82, and it prepares candidates for exam 156-315.82. It suits multinational security teams that need consistent standards across regions as well as individual engineers building specialist credentials. As the second level of Check Point’s certification pathway, it also lays the groundwork for the Check Point Certified Security Master (CCSM) designation.

FAQs

What is the Check Point Certified Security Expert (CCSE) course?

CCSE is Check Point’s advanced course for security professionals who already manage Check Point environments. It covers high availability, advanced policy and NAT, site-to-site VPN, advanced monitoring, upgrades, migrations, and ElasticXL clustering. The current version is R82.

What topics are covered in Check Point CCSE training?

The R82 course has seven modules: Management High Availability, Advanced Policy Management, Site-to-Site VPN, Advanced Security Monitoring, Upgrades, Advanced Upgrades and Migrations, and ElasticXL Cluster.

Do I need CCSA before CCSE?

To earn the CCSE certification, you must have passed an R8x or newer CCSA exam. Check Point notes that the CCSA does not have to be current. It is also strongly recommended that you complete the CCSA course before taking CCSE training.

What experience is recommended?

Check Point recommends at least six months of hands-on experience managing a Quantum Security Environment, along with solid TCP/IP knowledge and basic Linux command-line skills.

Does completing the course make me CCSE certified?

No. The course prepares you for exam 156-315.82. Certification is awarded by Check Point only after you pass that exam and meet the CCSA requirements. According to Check Point, the exam has 100 multiple-choice questions, a 90-minute time limit, and a 70% pass mark.

Why are high availability and upgrade skills so important?

Failures and changes are the moments when security is most at risk. Redundant management, tested failover, and well-planned upgrades keep protection in place when hardware fails or software needs updating.

What is ElasticXL?

ElasticXL is a Check Point clustering approach for large environments. It allows gateways to be added to a cluster to handle more traffic, with load balancing and failover across Cluster Members. The course covers deploying it and checking its health.

How does CCSE support professional development?

CCSE validates advanced, hands-on Check Point expertise and is a step toward the CCSM designation. It equips you for more senior responsibilities such as design, migration and resilience planning. Career outcomes still depend on your experience and the roles you pursue.
