Course Overview

Skilled attackers rarely rely on a single flaw. They chain small weaknesses, such as an exposed service, a weak permission, or an unpatched component, until they reach something valuable. RCCE Level 2 training teaches defenders to think the same way, at a professional level and in a controlled setting. The Rocheston Certified Cybersecurity Engineer (RCCE) Level 2 course is a five-day advanced programme in penetration testing, vulnerability assessment, cyber defence and professional reporting.

The programme assumes the foundation from RCCE Level 1 and moves straight into applied work. Learners follow the Rocheston Certified Penetration Tester (RCPT) framework, which takes an engagement from reconnaissance and discovery through validation, prioritisation and remediation.

Four parts structure the week. Cyber Range Sphere offers capture-the-flag style challenges across more than 100 lab machines. ZombieCop.Run sets Red Team against Blue Team, teaching how attacks are both carried out and stopped. Vulnerability Vines covers vulnerability assessment and penetration testing (VAPT), including vulnerability scanning, DevSecOps, identity and access management, zero trust, and VPN security. JuggyBank, a simulated banking environment, is the capstone, where learners assess the systems, then implement and defend security measures.

Everything happens in authorised, simulated Rocheston lab environments, and ethical hacking is always taught as a means to stronger defence.

For enterprise teams, the value lies in judgement. Engineers learn to scope tests responsibly and tell exploitable risk apart from noise. They also learn to explain findings so that developers, administrators and leadership can act. The same understanding strengthens network security design, incident response and ongoing vulnerability management. Rocheston’s wider portfolio appears on our Rocheston cybersecurity certifications.

Course Objectives

  • Analyse how attackers chain multiple weaknesses into a successful compromise.
  • Apply the RCPT framework to plan, run and close authorised penetration tests.
  • Identify and validate vulnerabilities across a range of more than 100 lab machines.
  • Evaluate DevSecOps, IAM, zero trust and VPN controls during VAPT exercises.
  • Defend systems as part of a Blue Team, and attack within scope as part of a Red Team.
  • Assess and defend a simulated banking environment in a capstone project.
  • Prioritise remediation by business impact rather than by scanner severity alone.
  • Produce professional reports that communicate risk to technical and executive audiences.

Advanced Penetration Testing Training for Global Security Teams

Organisations in every region now face attackers who chain cloud misconfigurations, weak identities and unpatched services into serious breaches, and who move from phishing to ransomware within hours. Security teams need engineers who can find those paths first and explain them clearly. RCCE Level 2 training gives international teams a shared advanced method, so testers and defenders in different offices plan, validate, and report assessments in the same way. That consistency helps organisations with distributed security operations compare results across business units and track improvement over time. The Red vs Blue format also builds cooperation between offensive and defensive staff, which many organisations find hard to develop internally. Individual learners can review dates on our global RCCE class schedule, and organisations can arrange a private programme for distributed security teams. FAQs

What does RCCE Level 2 cover that Level 1 does not?

RCCE Level 2 covers complete, authorised engagements rather than individual topics. It adds a large cyber range, Red vs Blue team exercises, structured VAPT work on modern controls such as zero trust and IAM, and a banking capstone. It also places strong emphasis on professional reporting, which turns technical findings into decisions an organisation can act on.

What is the RCCE Level 2 exam passing score?

The RCCE Level 2 exam requires a score of 70% to pass. It contains 100 questions in multiple-choice, true/false, and short-answer formats, with two hours allowed, and is proctored online through Ramsys on the last day of the course. The certificate is issued only after passing, so attending the training alone does not grant it.

Is RCCE Level 2 worth it for experienced penetration testers?

It can be valuable for testers who want a structured framework, broader defensive context, and a large range of varied targets. The Red vs Blue exercises are often the most useful part for experienced practitioners because they show how defenders detect testing activity. Testers who already lead complex engagements should review the outline with an advisor first.

What are the prerequisites for RCCE Level 2?

Rocheston lists RCCE Level 1 or an equivalent foundation as the entry requirement. Learners should be comfortable with networking, Linux command-line work, common web and network attacks, and core defensive controls before starting. Anyone without that background should begin with the RCCE Level 1 course.

Why is reporting such an important part of penetration testing?

A penetration test only improves security when the people responsible understand what to fix and why. Clear reports describe each finding with evidence, rate its risk, and recommend specific remediation, with a summary that leadership can act on. Poor reporting often leaves serious issues unresolved, which is why RCCE Level 2 gives it dedicated attention.

How does the RCCE Level 2 cyber range work?

The range is a set of more than 100 authorised lab machines, each built with different weaknesses. In Cyber Range Sphere, learners work through capture-the-flag-style challenges, identifying and validating vulnerabilities before recommending fixes. The same environment supports ZombieCop.Run team exercises so learners can practise both attack and defence without touching live systems.

Can organisations use RCCE Level 2 to build an internal testing team?

Yes, many organisations use advanced training to build in-house assessment capability. Training several staff together gives them a common methodology, shared terminology, and practice working as Red and Blue teams. They can then run authorised internal assessments more consistently and work with external testers on more equal terms.

What can I explore after RCCE Level 2?

After RCCE Level 2, many professionals apply their skills to real authorised engagements before taking on further specialisation. Those interested in combining AI with security can look at our Rocheston Certified AI Engineer course. Career outcomes depend on experience, performance, and employer needs, so no course can guarantee a particular role.
